Description

Newquay Rowing Club's Cornish Pilot Gigs beached in Newquay harbour. 'Newquay', 'Dove' and 'Treffry' were built by the Peters family of St Mawes respectively in 1812, 1820 and 1838. 'Active', 'Good Intent', 'Unity' and 'Speculation' were built by Tom Chudleigh of St Mary's in 1974, 1975 1978 and 1987 respectively and named after a historic fish cellars in Newquay. All modern Cornish Pilot Gigs are based on the ‘Treffry’. ‘Newquay’ was the oldest known Cornish Pilot Gig.
