Description

Servicemen of the 2nd Battalion US Rangers were trained for D-Day on Upton Cliffs near Bude in 1943-44. To mark the 40th anniversary of D-Day, the US veterans were invited back to Bude to attend a reunion with the townsfolk they were billeted with when they were training. In the third part, Jack Gardner, Chairman of Bude-Stratton Town Council talks to Len Rubin about what it was like in Britain during the war. They discuss rationing into the 50s and the importance of close ties between nations. They also talk about the Buckinghamshire Gardners who disappeared after they emigrated to America on the Mayflower.
