Description

David George interviews John Bird during the World Pilot Gig Championships. He is the coxswain of St Mary’s men’s ‘A' crew in ‘Tregarthens’ and when David asks him about his involvement with the Championships he explains that during the first year he lived on St Agnes and was proud to row in ‘Shah’ even though they were more a ‘social’ than truly competitive crew. He thinks that the Championships are very good for the Islands. His father was boat builder Ralph Bird and John speaks about an event in Newquay where all of the boats Ralph had built were lined up as a tribute after his father announced his retirement.
