Description

The iron-clad barque Noisel was carrying obsolete armour plate as scrap metal from Cherbourg to Savona when a South-West gale drove her ashore at Praa Sands on 7 August 1905. Her crew included Cornish, German,Polish, French and American sailors. 2 crew members died in the wreck, in which coastguards, volunteers and a rocket team came to the rescue. After the wreck, her fore-mast is still standing, with square-rigged sails aloft.
