The ladies race during the World Pilot Gig Championships held on the Isles of Scilly. Among those pictured Newquay Rowing Club’s 'Speculation' built by Tom Chudleigh of St Mary's in 1987 and named after a historic Newquay fish cellar; St Mary’s (IOS) Club’s Cornish Pilot Gig ‘Nornour’ built in 1971 by G Pearn of St Mary’s; Roseland Club’s 'Rhos' built in 1989 by Ralph Bird of Devoran bought in 2017 by London Cornish Gig Club; Fowey Club’s ‘Rival’ built in 1989 by Ralph Bird; Truro Gig Rowing Club's Cornish Pilot Gig 'Royal' built in 1988 also by Ralph Bird; St Mary’s (IOS) Club’s ‘Serica’ built in 1967 by Tom Chudleigh of St Mary’s;
