Description
First 'Outside Broadcast' by the BBC. This was one of the first LP recordings at the BBC- aptly named LP1. St.Hilary local prayer/ Christmas play rehearsals by the local vicar recorded in 1926. The life and times of the Christian community are described. The performance and subsequent party, and the wonderful hospitality provided at the St.Hilary vicarage from Father Bernard Walks. Dr Dorothy Chown's memories, the reorganising of the church, and the renewal as a high church as well as the new congregation are all described. The Protestant opposition is described, and the problems this created for the church and its community, as well as the artwork and artists who were involved in decorating the church. Those taking part include: Robert Carnell, Muriel Peters, Kitty Ellis, Gordon Floyd, Filson Young.
