Description

Joan Johns, née Bennetts, recalls her good times at the Penrose Road school between 1952 and 1956. She recalls particularly enjoying PE and being very sporty. She remembers being sent up the road in her PE kit to collect the netball and being wolf-whistled at by the boys at the garage. Joan describes the good school dinners and the excellent cooks in the canteen. Helston County Secondary School was formerly known as Helston Secondary Modern School. In the sixties and early seventies the Penrose Road school was known locally as the ‘Green School’ because of its uniform of dark green and grey.
