Description

Newquay Rowing Club’s Cornish Pilot Gigs moored in the Gannel at Newquay, all of which were built by the Peters family of St Mawes. They are ‘Treffry’ built in 1838, on which all modern Cornish Pilot Gigs are based and 'Shah' built in 1873. 'Shah' was purchased from St Agnes in 1954 by Newquay Rowing Club but in 1963 was sent back on loan to St Agnes and later sold to the Club there. Also in the picture are ‘Newquay’ built in 1812, the oldest known Cornish Pilot Gig and 'Dove' built 1820.
