Description
An account of the resource
The Cornish Pilot Gig Association Collection has been drawn together through the 'Pulling Together The Past' project.
This project was delivered between June 2018 and November 2019 by the Cornish Pilot Gig Association CIO. It set out to bring together existing heritage relating to gig rowing and capture the memories and experiences of the gig rowing community through filmed interviews.
The collection features film, audio and photographic items which have been shared by over 30 contributors. There are also over 50 newly created filmed interviews documenting the traditions of gig rowing and development of the sport.
Fascinating material relating to gig rowing can also be found across other collections within cornishmemory.com including:
- John Bawden Collection
- Ted Gundry Collectiom
- Gibson Collection
The 'Pulling Together The Past project was made possible by generous contributions from National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, Cornwall Heritage Trust, Cornwall Community Foundation, the Tanner Trust and FEAST.
