Description

David George interviews Kevin Sherris Chairman of World Pilot Gig Championships Committee who run the event. He explains that there are over sixty people involved with the planning and execution including tea ladies all working voluntarily except for professional chefs. During the competition weekend the population easily doubles from its normal two thousand residents. Kevin explains the problems of transporting the gigs and trailers from the mainland and where to store them. He describes how they close one of the roads for a week which is not popular with residents. Kevin outlines how they will be limiting the entries to 120 gigs next year to help address these issues.
