Description

The damaged Benwick, a 1884 ton Newcastle steamer, came aground near Porthcurno on 13 February 1903. A few hours earlier, she had struck the Runnelstone while steaming from Antwerp to Barry in ballast (without cargo). Her crew were rescued but she could not be salvaged. Her stern is nearest the rocks, and hull damage is visible on her starboard side.
