Description

Ted Gundry in conversation with Gerry Cawley at the Royal Cornwall Show who talks about Cornish Wrestling and his role as Archivist of the Cornish Wrestling Association. They discuss the representation of Cornish wrestlers on the flag of Cornish when they went to Agincourt. Gerry tells the story of Henry VIII who was reputed to tried a wrestling hitch. Gerry also describes past traditions of wrestling contests and the role of the 'stickler' (referee). He talks about the popularity of Cornish wrestling over time and how the sport travelled around the world with the migration of Cornish mining communities. They discuss the state of the sport and competition circuit today.
