Coastguard lookout, Bass Point, 1979
Coastguard Lookout at Bass Point, 29th September 1979. The lookout was closed soon after. In 1994 after two fishermen lost their lives within sight of the empty station a group of local people set up an organisation to restore visual watches along the UK coast. The National Coastwatch was born and the first station to open was Bass Point, in December 1994.
