A narrated documentary about Cornish mining, and its global impact. The film begins with the Cornish Pumping Engine, a revolutionary design, the main use of which was to rapidly pump large quantities of water from mines, allowing them to be expanded much faster and to greater depths. The film considers why Cornish miners to moved abroad due to the opening of mines overseas and the consequent closure of Cornish mines. The film also covers the contributions to mining by Holman Brothers in the form of drilling machinery, training at test quarries, and the School of Mines. Holman Brothers Ltd of Camborne was a mining equipment manufacturer.
