Mary Barrow The Lizzie Wilce (seen in the background) of Falmouth had set out from Swansea carrying coal to St Malo, but 2 days into her journey she struck Crab Rock and beached at Porthminster beach; a few hours later the Mary Barrow (seen in the foreground), also carrying coal and whose journey had been planned to end at Cowes, ploughed into the same beach a few yards away. Both schooners were refloated within a week or two, although the Lizzie Wilce was more damaged and resumed work as a coal hulk (a floating store).
