Description

Murdoch House in Cross Street, Redruth locally known as 'Fish Cross'. William Murdoch who invented gas lighting whilst living here as well as a steam driven locomotive known as 'The Murdoch Flyer' lived here from 1782 until 1798 . The house was the first in the world to be lit by gas. At this time it was J Batten's Refreshment Rooms.
