Description

Murdoch House in Cross Street, Redruth, known locally known as 'Fish Cross'. This is the aftermath of a fire which largely destroyed the seventeenth century house lived in by William Murdoch. It was here that he invented the first gas piped system for lighting as well as a steam driven locomotive known as 'The Murdoch Flyer'. This was the first house in the world to be lit by gas.
